Easy steps to contact your state representative

The Big Utility Tax pushed by PG&E, SCE, SDG&E, and approved by the CPUC, would increase the electricity bills on four million of working and middle class families. The Utility Tax will also remove the incentive for people to reduce their energy usage through conservation, energy efficiency, or solar panels.

California legislators created this mess last year when they passed AB 205, which includes a provision that allows big utilities to charge consumers an expensive Utility Tax. Now legislators need to fix it by passing AB 1999 (Irwin) to cap the Utility Tax so it does not go up in the future. .

You can help by urging your California Assemblymember and Senator to champion AB 1999.

If they are already a "co-author" of AB 1999, call and thank them

Here is a sample thank you message:

My name is ____. I live in ____. I want to THANK [Representative] for co-authoring the bill to cap the Utility Tax. I appreciate their leadership, and encourage them to keep it up!

If they are NOT a "co-author" of AB 1999, call and tell them to become one

Here is a sample "please co-author" AB 1999 message:

My name is ___. I live in ___. I’m calling to ask [REPRESENTATIVE] to support AB 1999, which would Stop the Big Utility Tax. The Big Utility Tax will increase bills on four million households. The Utility Tax is completely uncapped and the utilities want it to increase to $70 or more. Please stop this. The people most harmed will be renters, seniors, and people who have solar panels. Where do you stand?
